FELLOWSHIP

Report for 2008-2009

Isn’t it to be expected that the best laid plans can go astray? From intending to have frequent fellowship nights, the end of the Rotary year showed reality was different. However, thankfully, the fellowship events reflected quality rather than quantity.

The fellowship committee worked comfortably around the sometimes spontaneous opportunities afforded by changes in the program schedule. And that is what being in Rotary is all about; working together to achieve an objective, be it a community event, fundraising opportunity or simply to spend some fellowship time in the course of Rotary meetings. The Fellowship Committee played its part!

Theatre night
Our first event, in July, was a film night viewing the remake of ‘Get Smart’ and enjoying pizzas and drinks prior to the screening. If the film did not make you feel reminiscent of your younger days, then you did miss something from the 70’s.

Bowling night
Then there was some month’s hiatus until January when a good turnout of Rotarians showed up to demonstrate their bowling prowess at Horsham Lanes and Games, not to mention a few examples of how not to bowl or how to bowl yourself over. There was more to bowling than one thinks!

Mystery bus tour
A Mystery Bus Tour was enjoyed on a pleasant sunny autumn evening. Hors d’oevres were consumed at Mt Arapiles prior to continuing the tour for a meal and the delights of Spence’s wines at Norton Estate.

Progressive meal
Following on the touring theme, members participated in a progressive meal, cris-crossing the town, leaving neighbourhoods wondering, as cars shuffled between venues for the entree, mains and desert courses. Another enjoyable night was achieved.

Of course the events were not possible without the collective input of Fellowship Committee members, Louise Brennan, Jenny Reid and recent inductee, Pam Clarke. Like all members Pam willingly got into the swing of things by readily agreeing to host a meal at her house for the progressive meal evening. For me working together and having successful outcomes was half the fun.

A special thanks to Louise, Jenny and Pam and to other members of the club, whose time and effort at different time throughout the year contributed to an enjoyable time of fellowship. I hope you enjoyed it too!

Phil Proctor,
Director, Fellowship Committee
