Post fire cleanup exercise
The disastrous "Remlaw" fire on Black Saturday impacted on many residents of the Haven district on the outskirts of Horsham, including our own members. The images below are of the clean up work carried on on Peter and Jenny Rafter's property 2 weeks after the fire. Fortunately Peter and Jenny's home was undamaged but much fencing, trees, garden and a shed were lost.

Report for 2008-2009

Car Raffle
Thanks must go to Brian Thomas for again providing a car as a show piece for the Car Raffle sales. With Brian, Neil Popple, Steve Holmes and many Rotarians who sold raffle tickets we raised a large amount of money again for this project.

Meals on Wheels
This vital service in the community is rewarding for all the Rotarians involved. We again completed all of the tours of duty that Horsham Rural City Council asked us to. Members must be congratulated for filling the rosters and once again assisting our senior citizens.

Christmas Gift Wrapping
The gift wrapping the week before Christmas for a gold coin donation, proved popular and raised vital funds for our club. Credit to Chas McDonald for instigating this service and thanks to the Horsham Plaza for their support.

Infant Memorial Garden
The completion of this important and very worthy project was a real highlight of the year. Many thanks must go to Chas McDonald for his organizing ability and drive in keeping this project on track and “enticing” various trades’ people to contribute their skills. Robyn Lardner was also ‘Chas like” in contributing above and beyond to this wonderful project.

Good Friday Appeal
The appeal was well supported by members. We were not able to determine from the organizers the amount raised due to the efforts of our members however knowing that we contributed to this very worthy cause is a great source of satisfaction.

Wimmera Field Days
The cleaning of machinery on the Case O’Connor stand raised money and was diligently done by some very early risers among our club.

Donations in Kind
This program is continuing and it was pleasing to see that many of the goods accumulating in the shed have been moved on to those that need them.

Carols by Candlelight
Members were asked this year to provide helpers to make sure all the aisles were kept open for free movement of those attending.

Christmas Cards
The allocation of Christmas Cards sold very quickly thanks to the expert salesmanship of Neil May.

Haven Men’s Health Night
The running of a Men’s Health Night in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Geelong, at Haven to assist those who had been most affected by the Remlaw fire was a good demonstration of Rotary responding to a community need.

Post bushfire clean up
Members willingly participated in several working bees to help with the clean up in the Haven area following the February 7 fire.
